Himalayan salt was first discovered by Alexander the Great in the 15th century when his armies were stationed around the mountainous region of the Himalayas which is now Norther Pakistan. Rock salt formed 250 million years ago (long before pollution became a factor) when extreme weathers and geological changes, including massive earth quakes trapped oceans under the earths crust, and over a very long period of time, the trapped oceans crystallized and formed solid rocks of pure natural salt. This natural salt has been mined from the Punjab region ever since the discovery and the region has still an estimated 12 billion tons of reserve salt.

Salt Supplies have spent a long time researching suppliers of Himalayan salt and can safely say at this stage that our selected suppliers are the market leaders in the supply of All grades of Food Grade Himalayan salt securing ISO 9001 : 2000 and are HACCP certified, they are also the first company in Pakistan to have ZLD or Zero Liquid Discharge meaning there is no discharge of liquid waste products into drains or water courses thus being highly compliant with environmental concerns. Their manufacturing capacity alone stands at 2000 tons per day over three manufacturing plants.
